Abhishek Bachchan Biography

The 6'1 feet tall Abhishek Bachchan was born on 5th February, 1976 to Bollywood Legend and Veteran Actor Amitabh Bachchan & Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan.

Abhishek is the son of legendary Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and renowned actress and Samajwadi Party MP in Rajya Sabha, Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan had his education at the prestigious Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish School, both in Mumbai and Modern School in Vasant Vihar in Delhi. After completing his school education Abhishek Bachchan joined Aiglon College, one of the worlds most expensive and exclusive British-style boarding schools located in Switzerland. He did not finish his business degree as he chose to pursue an acting career which his father agreed to.

"He is very much his own actor," says Sunil Shetty. "Of course, there are moments when he is his father's son, but that's not because he's been influenced, it's more due to the fact that it's in his genes, both from his father as well as his mother."

On the other hand, the pressure of measuring up to your talented parents could also be quite a strain. How was he facing up to this fact? We got an answer from a member of the industry who wished to remain anonymous. "Abhishek does not once forget where he comes from or whose son he is. But when it comes to his work, he's taken the best of both and combined it with a talent that is his own and the result will soon be there for all to see. I feel it's quite awesome."

People who know Abhishek also feel the same way. One such person commented... "By and large, the film industry has a pretty fake outward attitude, which works for them. I feel Abhishek has an attitude that is genuinely polite and could never be a put-on. He is an introvert but the friends he makes are for life. Abhishek will give his life for his family and friends."

It is a well known fact that Abhishek Bachchan is adored by the members of the film industry. Mothers like Hema Malini dote on him and sex-sirens such as Bipasha Basu hold a “soft corner” for him. However, this wasn’t enough to bring Abhishek Bahchcan the success he was looking for. His debut, Refugee, earned him rave reviews but didn’t click with the masses. His lackluster debut was followed by a string of flops such as Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and Bas Itna Saa Khwab Hain. The pressure was on him to succeed and good news came with the release of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. Although not a hit, the film did garner Abhishek much deserved critical acclaim and a spate of awards.

Although he made a strong debut in J.P.Dutta's "Refugee" along with Kareena Kapoor in 2000, the movie was not considered a success. In a span of four years, Bachchan went on to do many more movies, without any major box-office successes.

2004 was a good year for him. His performance in Mani Ratnam's "Yuva", proved his mettle as an actor. The same year, he starred in "Dhoom" which was his first major hit.In 2005, he shot to fame with four consecutive hits: "Bunty Aur Babli", "Sarkar", "Dus" and "Bluffmaster". He won his second Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for "Sarkar". Bachchan also received his first Filmfare nomination in the Best Actor category for "Bunty Aur Babli".

His first 2006 release, the multi-starrer "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (2006) was one of the highest grossing films of the year. He was also a part of Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai alongside many other co-stars. His second release "Umrao Jaan" failed to do well at the box office. His third release "Dhoom 2", a sequel to his first hit Dhoom did very well at the box office.

According to Bollywood grapevine the dazzling actor Abhishek Bachchan has had several romantic flings in the industry. But he denied all and ticked them off as just rumors doing the usual customary rounds in Bollywood.

His first release in 2007 was "Guru". He has received much acclaim for his performance and the film emerged as his first solo hit.He recently made a brief appearance in the multi-starrer "Shootout at Lokhandwala" which released in May 2007; the film was successful. His next release "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" released in June 2007. The film under-performed in India but did better overseas especially in the U.K.However while the film received mixed reviews. Abhishek received good notices for his performance in the film. His upcoming release is "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag".

In 2008 Abhishek Bachchan will join Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, and other Indian film actors on the world-wide Unforgettable Tour. The tour will reportedly cover 18 countries and 6 continents.

Abhishek Bachchan was earlier engaged to Karisma Kapoor. The couple announced their engagement on Amitabh Bachchan's 60th birthday in October of 2002. But for reasons unknown the engagement was called off in January of 2003.

After much speculation concerning their relationship, his engagement to Aishwarya Rai,who has been in many movies with him, was announced on January 14, 2007.Aishwarya Rai had dated actors Salman Khan & Vivek Oberai before. The announcement was later confirmed by Amitabh Bachchan.

As their romance grew stronger and stronger, Abhishek Bachchan, with full consent from his parents, decided to tie the nuptial knots to this breathtaking beauty. On January 14th of 2007 both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai got engaged and three months later on April 20th of 2007 they got married in a private ceremony held at Bachchans' residence 'Prateeksha' in Juhu. The wedding was performed according to the Hindu customs. Though the wedding was an exclusive private affair the paparazzi and the national media created a sort of euphoria in the nation. Millions of diehard fans of Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai spilled on to the roads in Mumbai dancing in gay abandon.
